Programming games for fun and 3D modeling software for work. Trans rights are human rights.

Mastodon isn't perfect.

But the fact a social network exists that is completely free to use,

has no venture capital investors,

has no shareholders to answer to,

has no growth targets,

with a web interface with zero cookies,

and mobile apps with zero trackers at all

with ten thousand server administrators who donate their time for user safety

is - in my opinion - mindbogglingly cool, given the state of the world we live in. Not everything has to be shit. People make things better.

One gripe I’ve had since returning to Android is that I haven’t found a nice feeling fedi client. I think that’s resolved now though, Moshidon feels pretty good, and at last, is a client that tells me straight when my instance is down!

Oh and… Just one more thing.

You claim that the system is… Serverless, I believe? Well, I’m no computer whizzkid, so I had the boys back at the lab do some digging.

They had a little look and, well… They found some servers. Isn’t that interesting?

Well, I best be on my way now.

Increasing work_mem and maintenance_work_mem to be ~double of what it was seems to have solved my akkoma time-outing issues. Who knew a database-bound service might benefit from more resources! Still, might set up a gotosocial, seems pretty lean. And it'd finally be a fedi server written in a lang I know at all.

The Linux Wayland Experienceā„¢ļø (at least on Sway) has gotten very good! I just crashed my GPU driver with some WebGL in Firefox (everything froze for a while), and it recovered! Screen went black, and then everything came back just fine. Well, the webgl app died due to losing its webgl context, but that's very fair.

But if the rubber ducks can find the problems in the code by themselves then why do we need to pay the programmers

Wrote a longer blogpost about moving my game project from C to Odin programming language:
https://akselmo.dev/posts/moving-from-c-to-odin/

It's rambly as always, and barely checked for typos or other inconsistencies. But I hope it's interesting anyway.

"Tweet" as a generic term for a post on a microblogging platform is an interesting take, especially now that it actually isn't used by the company that used to "own" the term. Hmm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyV54qfSZwg

SDL3 has hit ABI lock!

You can now trust the interfaces to stay stable. We will _add_ but not _remove_ or _change_ what's there, so it's safe to migrate your game to it!

https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL/releases/tag/preview-3.1.3

We're rushing to an official release from here, but what's there has been battle-hardened in Steam and DOTA2 and CS2 for over a year now, across several platforms.

it's wild how RSS/atom feeds are like the jumanji box of web technologies. so many websites don't advertise it, but there's often a secret dusty box full of surprises in the <head> tag, waiting patiently for you to open it

this is a brilliant article on being artist/musician in the world...

in a nutshell, there are three types of artists:
- The Independently Wealthy
- The Lifer
- The Dayjobber

Every time I post something on my blog, I seem to get the itch to follow it up with another one... This time it's about the monolithic html files my blog and website generator* makes: https://blog.neon.moe/2024/09/27/inlined-html.html

\* a makefile plus a few python and awk scripts, very esoteric and fun to maintain
